Son Of Grace has gone back to back at Geelong after finding winning form at Kyneton late last month – the six-year-old had been out of form before that run with blinkers providing the spark he needed!
And now he has gone right on with it, on Sunday making it two in a row, overcoming a tricky wide gate by zooming to the lead where he was always travelling well – giving a lovely kick in the run home and holding on to a nice 3/4 length margin.
“It is hard to believe that he took 25 starts to break his maiden and now he has won three of his last eight,” Allison said.
“Obviously the wide draw posed no problems as he began so brilliantly. He managed to get a breather mid-race which was good and he showed toughness and tenacity in the straight.”
“He is such a genuine horse, all the jockeys love riding him,” she said, adding that his riders describe him as “push button.”
Neil Farley is forging a great relationship with Son Of Grace, aboard for both of his last two wins.
He certainly enjoys riding Son Of Grace, noting that “he is airborne at the moment.”
“He is jumping well and relaxing,” he said “and when he hears something get to his girth he wants to get going.”
“So he can go a fraction early but he is so tough – it felt to me as though if something was to eye-ball him he’d find again.”
The horse affectionately known as “Mike” always has owners on course cheering him on, the gelding much loved by his breeder Sandra McLees along with Allison, Rob Ryan, Greg Alford, Chris Jones and Rob Roderick.
He came to the stable with his dam, the city placed six times winning Dash For Cash mare Silver Trinket, when he was just a foal – so he has been part of Allison’s life for a few years now!
Sadly Silver Trinket (who can count Desert Sun – sire of Sunline and dam sire of Black Caviar and Nature Strip amongst her relations) died young with Son Of Grace her only foal.
His sire Cowboy Blue did not race and he died seven years ago having sired 30 live foals. Ten of those raced with Son Of Grace one of five winners for the son of High Chapparal.
